I believe I am correct, it is the Duke of Marlborough pub, which is just 200 yards from British Queen and actually on Crook Street. Right before the railway bridge that crossed Crook Street with trains from Great Moor Street Railway Station heading to Daubhill, Daisy Hill, Westhoughton, Wigan and points North.
Actually Dawes Street and Crook Street corner is the pub, with the light coming into the bar from Crook Street.
A kid Paul that I attended S.S. Peter & Paul’s with, it was his Aunt managed the place.
It was a lunch time oasis for the beer boyz at old Hick Hargreaves. I admit I was one Hicks lads until I tried Painters Arms. (It had a juke box and gambling)
