Children playing in the street were one of Spender’s favourite subjects. Whilst games like marbles are still popular others are unfamiliar today. These boys are playing with chicken’s feet. They could open and close them by pulling on the tendons. We don’t know the location of this photograph although it is probably in Bolton town centre, if you can help locate it please leave a comment below.
