Foundation stone for St Chad’s Church inscribed as laid by Guy, Lord Bishop of Manchester. Mass Observers attended the stone laying ceremony.

I recently went to view this stone at St Chad`s Church and I am sorry to say It has not stood up to well with the Bolton weather you can now just about read what it says however very near to where this one is another foundation stone which was laid on the same date the insciption say`s A M D G This stone was laid by Sir William Clare Lees BT on the 24 of July 1937 This one has stood up to the Bolton weather very well one thing i cant understand is why no picture of this stone is on the Mass observation site surely if they both laid on the same day (or were they?)Humphrey Spender would have taken one It is nice to know we had a Lord Bishop a Sir and the Mass Observation Team in Bolton at the same time Many thanks for this picture
