A speaker for the Conservative Party on the Town Hall steps, which were used as a sort of ‘Speaker’s Corner’ for political and religious groups.

One of the photographs from this sequence was used by the local Labour Party in their newsletter ‘The Citizen’ (March 1938) as propaganda against the Conservative party with the sarcastic caption ‘A mass Tory demonstration against Labour’.
