Have you any memories, new information or corrections relating to this picture?
This used to be Top o’ th’ Brow Independent Methodist Mission. I was baptised ther in 1946 and my sister in 1941. Mr Widdup, Mr Shuttlebottom and Mr Williscroft were the lay preachers. The Sunday school used to be downstairs.
Thanks for sharing your memories Doreen. Did you enjoy Sunday School there?
Yes Caroline I did. Wish I had photos of when we walked in the “Sermons” all round Top o’ th’ Brow estate..lots of good memories.
I have several photos of Top o’ th’ Brow I M Sermons and Sunday School – mostly post 1966 but some with Marjorie Sidebottom and the singers,1958 or 1959. Was your maiden name Charleston, Doreen?

My grandfather, William (Bill) Owen was the Minister at Top o’th Brow and I was christened there by him in 1970 🙂
Riley Widdup and David Collier, who were both active in the church’s administrative and musical activities, were friends of my parents’, and my parents themselves ran and managed the fife and drum band, in which I played the snare drum (perhaps not brilliantly, it has to be said!)
After much moving around, we now all live in Bedfordshire.
My father was the caretaker for a few years at The Mission, as it was always known. Does anyone remember the Field day which the Sunday school held for the children? I still have a book which I was given for taking part in the races. I also remember attending a show at the Mission it was “The Desert Song” an operetta.
It was marvelous. These are memories between 1939 and 1943
