Description

This reading room on Howell Croft North offered Bolton’s book lovers a temporary home whilst the Civic Centre was being built.

Improved education and paperback publishing improved literacy levels in the 1930s. Publisher Victor Gollancz ran the popular Left Book Club and  helped to fund the Worktown project . He intended to publish four books based on the Worktown observations.
